Pazopanib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Here's the gist for pazopanib (Votrient). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break this medicine down and keep its levels in a safe range. Lab studies hint that boswellia can slow that same enzyme, which could let pazopanib build up a bit higher than expected. With this drug, higher levels may mean more of its known side effects, things like high blood pressure, diarrhea, fatigue, liver enzyme changes, or rarely heart-rhythm (QT) issues.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, and boswellia may even speed the enzyme up slightly at low amounts. So we don't know the real-world effect. Because pazopanib is a serious cancer medicine, please don't start or stop boswellia on your own. Run it by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here's the honest picture for Votrient (pazopanib) and boswellia. Pazopanib isn't a prodrug, so it works as-is to slow your kidney cancer. The concern on file is that boswellia might nudge the immune system, either calming it or revving it up depending on the lab study. In other words, the data conflicts and it's all from test-tube and animal research, not real patients taking this combination.

Because of that, no one can confidently say boswellia will change how well pazopanib works or its side effects (like high blood pressure, fatigue, or liver changes). I wouldn't lose sleep over occasional use, but since this is cancer therapy, please run boswellia by your oncologist or pharmacist before starting it.

What Is Pazopanib Used For?

Brand name: Votrient

Pazopanib tablets — sold as the brand Votrient and as generic pazopanib — are used to treat two types of advanced cancer in adults: advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common form of kidney cancer, and advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in patients who have already received prior chemotherapy.

Important limitation: Pazopanib has not been shown to work in adipocytic soft tissue sarcoma (a subtype involving fat cells) or in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), so it is not used for those cancers.
