Temsirolimus falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might increase or decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata gum resin inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes. Other in vitro research shows that Boswellia serrata extract inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes at most concentrations, although it may modestly induce enzyme activity at low concentrations.

Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear temsirolimus (Torisel) from your system. In test-tube studies, boswellia mostly seems to slow that enzyme down, though at very low amounts it might speed it up a little. If it slows clearance, more temsirolimus could linger in your blood, which may raise the chance of side effects like mouth sores, rash, fatigue, high blood sugar, high cholesterol, or low blood counts.

Here's the honest part: this concern is theoretical, based only on lab research, not real patient cases. Still, because temsirolimus is a serious cancer drug given by infusion, I'd play it safe. Please run any boswellia supplement past your oncology team before adding it.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here's the situation with Boswellia and your temsirolimus (Torisel). Temsirolimus quiets down the immune system and the signals that tell cancer cells to grow. Boswellia, meanwhile, may also tinker with immune activity. The tricky part is that lab studies pull in two different directions: some suggest boswellic acids calm the immune system, while others suggest they can actually rev parts of it up. Because of that mixed picture, we can't say for sure which way things would go.

The good news is this is purely theoretical, based only on test-tube and animal research, so it shouldn't keep you up at night. Still, since temsirolimus is a serious cancer medication, please run any Boswellia supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist before adding it.
