Tocilizumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Boswellia Serrata interacts with.

Theoretically, Boswellia serrata might alter the effects of immunosuppressive drugs.
Some in vitro research suggests that Boswellia serrata extracts might inhibit mediators of autoimmune disorders such as leukotrienes and reduce production of antibodies and cell-mediated immunity. However, other in vitro research suggests that, when coupled with calcium ions, boswellic acids containing the keto group have immunostimulant properties within specific cell signaling pathways.

Here's the honest picture with Actemra (tocilizumab) and Boswellia. Tocilizumab is a biologic that calms an immune signal called IL-6, and it isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't rely on the body to switch it on. Boswellia works on a totally different pathway (it influences inflammation-related enzymes and immune messengers), so the two aren't expected to directly clash chemically.

The concern is purely theoretical, and it cuts both ways. Some lab studies hint Boswellia might calm the immune system a little, which could add to tocilizumab's effect. Other lab work suggests it might mildly stimulate immune cells, which could tug the opposite way. Importantly, all of this comes from test-tube and animal research, not from people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, since both touch your immune system, please run it by your doctor or pharmacist before adding Boswellia.

What Is Tocilizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Actemra

Tocilizumab injection is used to treat several serious inflammatory and immune-related conditions. Actemra (tocilizumab) is indicated for moderately to severely active rheumatoid arthritis in adults who haven't responded well to other disease-modifying drugs, giant cell arteritis in adults, systemic sclerosis-associated interstitial lung disease (SSc-ILD) to slow lung function decline, polyarticular and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis in patients 2 years and older, and severe or life-threatening cytokine release syndrome (CRS) caused by CAR T-cell therapy in adults and children 2 and older.

Actemra is also approved for hospitalized adults and children aged 2 and older with COVID-19 who are on corticosteroids and need supplemental oxygen or mechanical breathing support. Not every brand or route is approved for every use — your prescriber will choose the right form for your specific condition.
