Ixazomib Citrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Bulbine Natalensis interacts with.

Theoretically, Bulbine natalensis stem might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Bulbine natalensis stem extract induces CYP3A4 mRNA expression and enzyme activity. Theoretically, this may increase the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates, but this has not been studied in humans.

Here's the concern with pairing this supplement and Ninlaro (ixazomib). Ixazomib is cleared from your body partly by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab and test-tube studies, Bulbine natalensis appears to speed that enzyme up. If that happened in people, your body could break down ixazomib faster, leaving less of it to fight your multiple myeloma. With a cancer drug, weaker levels could mean the treatment doesn't work as well as it should.

I want to be honest though: this is only a theoretical worry based on lab data, not human studies, so we don't truly know if it matters in real life. Still, with a serious cancer medicine, I wouldn't take chances. Please run this by your oncology team or pharmacist before adding Bulbine natalensis.

What Is Ixazomib Used For?

Brand name: Ninlaro

Ninlaro (ixazomib) is used to treat multiple myeloma — a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is not used alone; it is always taken together with two other medicines, lenalidomide and dexamethasone. This combination is for adults who have already received at least one prior treatment for their myeloma.

Ninlaro is not recommended for use as maintenance therapy or in newly diagnosed multiple myeloma patients on a lenalidomide and dexamethasone regimen outside of controlled clinical trials.
