Here's the basic idea with Tecvayli (teclistamab). This is a powerful cancer treatment for multiple myeloma that works by engaging your immune system in a very targeted way. Bupleurum is a little different from a typical immunosuppressant drug, but the concern on file is similar: in lab and animal studies, compounds in bupleurum (the saikosaponins) seemed to stimulate the immune system. The worry is that nudging the immune system in an unpredictable direction could theoretically interfere with how your treatment is meant to work, or add to immune-related side effects.

I want to be honest, though, this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal research, not human studies. Still, with a drug as serious as Tecvayli, I'd play it safe. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Run the bupleurum past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Teclistamab-cqyv Injection Used For?

Brand name: Tecvayli

Tecvayli (teclistamab-cqyv) injection is used to treat adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma — a cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow — whose disease has come back or stopped responding to earlier treatments.

Tecvayli is approved in two settings: as monotherapy for patients who have received at least four prior lines of therapy (including a proteasome inhibitor, an immunomodulatory agent, and an anti-CD38 monoclonal antibody); and in combination with daratumumab and hyaluronidase-fihj for patients who have received at least one prior line of therapy including a proteasome inhibitor and an immunomodulatory agent.
