Here's the gist for these two together. Dronedarone (Multaq) can slow down an enzyme called CYP2C9, and that same enzyme helps your body break down THC, the part of cannabis that gets you high. So in theory, when you use cannabis while taking dronedarone, the THC may stick around longer and hit harder. That could mean more drowsiness, dizziness, a faster or pounding heartbeat, low blood pressure, or feeling more impaired than you expected.

I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the drugs work on paper, not from strong studies, so it may not be a big deal for everyone. Since dronedarone is a heart-rhythm medicine and cannabis can stress the heart, please run this by your doctor or pharmacist before mixing them.

Here's the gist for Multaq (dronedarone) and cannabis. Dronedarone acts as a CYP3A4 blocker, and the THC in cannabis is partly cleared by that same CYP3A4 pathway. So in theory, taking them together could slow how fast your body removes THC, letting it build up a bit. That might mean a stronger or longer high, more drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or a faster heartbeat than you'd expect.

I want to be honest though: this one is theoretical, based on how the enzymes work rather than real-world reports, so it may not be a big deal for everyone. Since dronedarone is a heart-rhythm drug and cannabis can affect heart rate too, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, cannabis may increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabis can inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 enzymes, which might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates. In vitro research also shows that cannabis extracts modestly inhibit the CYP3A4 metabolism of testosterone; extracts providing the specific cannabinoids CBD and cannabigerol (CBG) had stronger inhibitory effects than extracts containing THC and CBD.

Here's the gist for Multaq (dronedarone). Your body clears this medicine mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest that compounds in cannabis (especially CBD and CBG) can slow that enzyme down a bit. If dronedarone breaks down more slowly, more of it could linger in your system, which might nudge up its effects and side effects.

Dronedarone is a heart rhythm drug with a narrow safety margin, so even modest changes matter. Things to watch for include unusual tiredness, dizziness, a slow or irregular heartbeat, or stomach upset. That said, this concern comes only from test-tube research, not human studies, so we don't truly know how strong it is in real life. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining the two.

About Dronedarone

What Is Dronedarone Used For?

Brand name: Multaq

Multaq (dronedarone) tablets are used to reduce the risk of being hospitalized for atrial fibrillation (AF) — an irregular, often rapid heart rhythm. It is approved for adults who are currently in normal sinus rhythm but have a history of paroxysmal (comes and goes) or persistent atrial fibrillation.

Multaq is not appropriate for everyone with AF. It must not be used in people with permanent atrial fibrillation or in those with recently worsened heart failure requiring hospitalization — these patients face a doubled risk of death, stroke, and hospitalization if they take it.
