Temazepam falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Cannabis interacts with.

Theoretically, cannabis might have additive effects if used with other CNS depressants.
Cannabis can have CNS depressant effects. Combining cannabis with other CNS depressants might result in additive or synergistic effects. A small clinical trial in healthy adults shows that inhaling a high-grade cannabis (Bedrocan International B.V., Veendam, The Netherlands) 100 mg, containing delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol 21.8% and cannabinol 0.1%, modestly increases subjective feelings of sedation when compared with cannabis alone.

Here's the simple version: temazepam is a sleeping pill that calms your brain, and cannabis can do something similar. When you put the two together, those calming effects can stack up. That means you might feel more drowsy, groggy, dizzy, or foggy than you would with either one alone, and the next-morning hangover feeling could be stronger too. There's a real risk of being unsteady on your feet, which matters most for older folks who could fall.

To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical, pharmacology-based concern, with only small studies showing modest extra sedation. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them, especially since both can affect breathing and coordination.

Temazepam also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES.

Theoretically, cannabis may increase the levels and adverse effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that cannabis can inhibit the activity of CYP3A4 enzymes, which might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates. In vitro research also shows that cannabis extracts modestly inhibit the CYP3A4 metabolism of testosterone; extracts providing the specific cannabinoids CBD and cannabigerol (CBG) had stronger inhibitory effects than extracts containing THC and CBD.

Here's the gist for your sleep medicine. Temazepam is one of many drugs the liver clears using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest cannabis (especially CBD and CBG) can slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, temazepam could hang around longer than usual, which may add to its effects, more next-day grogginess, dizziness, poor balance, and trouble concentrating.

I'll be honest: this is mostly test-tube evidence, not proven in real people, so the real-world risk is probably modest. The bigger concern is simpler, both cannabis and temazepam are sedating, so together they can make you very drowsy. Please don't change anything on your own. Just check in with your doctor or pharmacist first.

Temazepam capsules — sold as Restoril and under the generic name Temazepam — are indicated for the short-term treatment of insomnia, generally 7 to 10 days. They help people fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer.

This medication is intended for short periods only. If sleep trouble doesn't improve within 7 to 10 days, that may signal an underlying medical or psychiatric condition that needs its own evaluation.
