Here's the gist for losartan (Cozaar), which is a blood pressure medicine that relaxes your blood vessels. The concern is that caprylic acid might have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. So in theory, stacking it on top of losartan could push your pressure a little lower than expected, leading to things like dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand up, fatigue, or feeling faint.

I want to be honest with you: this one is purely theoretical and comes mostly from animal studies, not real people. The everyday amount of caprylic acid you'd get from coconut oil in cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. If you're starting one, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on how you feel.

Caprylic acid is a medium-chain fatty acid found in coconut oil and palm kernel oil that is popularly used for yeast overgrowth and gut health. While laboratory studies show it has antimicrobial activity, strong human evidence for most supplement claims is limited. It is generally considered safe in food amounts, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

About Losartan

What Is Losartan Used For?

Brand name: Cozaar

Losartan tablets — available as branded Cozaar and several generic products — are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. Losartan tablets are also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people with high blood pressure who also have left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged left side of the heart). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients.

Losartan tablets are additionally approved to protect the kidneys in people with type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and signs of kidney damage (diabetic nephropathy). Arbli, the oral suspension form, shares these same approved uses.
