Theoretically, carob might also impair the absorption of oral drugs.
Laboratory research shows that carob, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Take carob 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's a little wrinkle worth knowing: Haloprogin (Halotex) is actually a topical antifungal cream you rub on the skin for things like athlete's foot and ringworm. The interaction we have on file is about carob possibly slowing the absorption of oral medicines you swallow, mostly because carob is rich in fiber and tannins that can grab onto things in the gut.

Since you apply Haloprogin to your skin and don't take it by mouth, eating carob or using it as a thickener really shouldn't change how well your cream works. This concern is also only theoretical, based on lab work, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If you ever do switch to an oral medication, a simple trick is to space carob 30 to 60 minutes apart. When in doubt, your pharmacist is happy to double-check.

Carob is a Mediterranean tree whose pods are widely used as a caffeine-free, naturally sweet cocoa alternative and as a thickener (carob gum).
