Here's the gist for carob and your nortriptyline: the concern isn't about how your body breaks the medicine down, it's about absorption in your gut. Carob is rich in fiber and tannins, and in theory those could grab onto the nortriptyline before it gets soaked up, leaving a little less of it in your system. In practice, that might mean a slightly weaker effect on your mood or sleep.

Honestly, this is a minor, theoretical concern based only on lab work, so I wouldn't lose sleep over a little carob in your diet. To be safe, you can simply space them out: take your nortriptyline first, then enjoy carob 30 to 60 minutes later. If you have questions, your pharmacist is happy to help.

Nortriptyline is approved to relieve symptoms of depression. This applies to nortriptyline hydrochloride capsules, nortriptyline hydrochloride oral solution, and Pamelor capsules — all used for the same core indication.
