Vinblastine falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorella interacts with.

Theoretically, chlorella might have additive effects with photosensitizing drugs.
Chlorella has been reported to cause photosensitization. In five case reports, patients who had ingested chlorella exhibited swelling followed by erythematopurpuric lesions on sun-exposed areas of the body. Theoretically, concomitant use with photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate effects.

Here's the gist with chlorella and vinblastine: this isn't about chlorella changing how your body breaks down the chemo, and it won't make the vinblastine itself weaker or stronger. The concern is about your skin and the sun. Vinblastine can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and there are a handful of case reports where chlorella did the same thing, causing swelling and reddish-purple rashes on sun-exposed areas. Put the two together and you could, in theory, sunburn or react more easily.

Honestly, this is a theoretical, low-evidence concern built on pharmacology and a few case reports, not a strong warning. Still, since you're on chemo, it's worth mentioning chlorella to your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it, and practice good sun protection regardless.

Chlorella is a nutrient-rich freshwater green algae taken as a supplement for general wellness, immune support, and 'detox.' What Is Vinblastine Used For?

Brand name: Velban

Vinblastine Sulfate Injection is used in the treatment of a range of cancers. Conditions that tend to respond well include generalized Hodgkin's disease, lymphocytic lymphoma, histiocytic lymphoma, advanced mycosis fungoides (a type of skin lymphoma), advanced testicular cancer, Kaposi's sarcoma, and Letterer-Siwe disease (a rare immune condition also called histiocytosis X).

It may also be used for cancers that respond less reliably, such as choriocarcinoma resistant to other chemotherapy drugs, and breast cancer that has not responded to hormonal therapy. Vinblastine is often given as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen alongside other cancer medicines to improve response rates.
