Demeclocycline falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Chlorophyll interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of chlorophyll with photosensitizing drugs may have additive effects.
Chlorophyll has been reported to cause photosensitization. In two case reports, pseudoporphyria developed after oral intake of chlorophyll. Theoretically, concomitant use with other photosensitizing drugs may exacerbate this effect.

Here's the thing to know about demeclocycline: it's a tetracycline antibiotic, and these drugs are famous for making your skin much more sensitive to sunlight. Even a short time outdoors can leave you with an exaggerated sunburn, redness, or a rash on sun-exposed skin. Chlorophyll has also been linked to sun sensitivity, with a couple of reports of a skin reaction called pseudoporphyria after taking it by mouth.

So the concern is simply additive: two things that each crank up sun sensitivity, used together, could make a bad sunburn more likely. This is mostly theoretical and based on weak evidence, so don't panic. Just be smart with sunscreen, hats, and shade while on demeclocycline, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a chlorophyll supplement.

About Demeclocycline

What Is Demeclocycline Used For?

Brand name: Declomycin

Demeclocycline Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. These include Rocky Mountain spotted fever, typhus, Q fever, tick fevers, respiratory tract infections (including those caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae), cholera, plague, tularemia, brucellosis, relapsing fever, chancroid, and sexually transmitted infections such as lymphogranuloma venereum, nongonococcal urethritis, and gonorrhea (when penicillin cannot be used).

It is also used for certain skin and skin structure infections, bartonellosis, granuloma inguinale, actinomycosis, listeriosis, anthrax (when penicillin is contraindicated), and as an adjunct in acute intestinal amebiasis. In severe acne, it may be used as part of combination therapy. It should only be used for infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it.
