Here's the gist if you're using Dalteparin (Fragmin) and thinking about cod liver oil. Dalteparin already thins your blood to keep clots from forming. The omega-3 fats in cod liver oil (EPA and DHA) can make your platelets a little less sticky and lengthen the time it takes to stop bleeding. Stacked on top of Dalteparin, that could nudge your bleeding risk up.

To be fair, this is mostly theoretical, and the bleeding changes showed up at high doses (around 20 to 40 mL daily), not typical food amounts. Watch for easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or pink urine. Since Dalteparin is serious medicine, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding cod liver oil, and don't change anything on your own.

Evidence is strongest for its nutrient content, but proof of specific disease benefits is mixed. About Dalteparin Injection

What Is Dalteparin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Fragmin

Fragmin (dalteparin) injection is used to prevent blood clots (deep vein thrombosis, or DVT) in people having hip replacement or abdominal surgery, and in hospitalized patients who are largely immobile due to acute illness. It is also used to reduce ischemic complications — meaning clot-related events — in people with unstable angina or a type of heart attack called non-Q-wave MI, when given alongside aspirin.

Fragmin is approved for the extended treatment of symptomatic venous thromboembolism (VTE — blood clots in the veins or lungs) in adults with cancer, to reduce the chance of clots coming back, for up to six months. It is also approved to treat symptomatic VTE in pediatric patients from birth (at least 35 weeks gestational age) onward. Fragmin is not intended for the acute (immediate emergency) treatment of VTE.
