Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts like a sponge in your gut. Because it's porous, it can grab onto pills sitting in your stomach and intestines, including your captopril and hydrochlorothiazide combo. If it soaks up some of the dose before your body can absorb it, you may get less blood pressure lowering than you should. That could mean your numbers creep back up.

This is a theory based on how charcoal behaves, not something proven with this exact medicine, so don't panic. The easy fix is timing: keep the charcoal and your blood pressure pill at least two hours apart. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and keep monitoring your blood pressure.

What Is Captopril and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Capozide, Acezide

Captopril and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). The two ingredients work together to lower blood pressure more effectively than either one alone.

This combination may be started as initial therapy or substituted when a patient has already been adjusted on both ingredients separately. It is approved for patients with normal kidney function, and is used more cautiously in those with impaired kidney function.
