Here's the basic idea with coffee charcoal: like other charcoal-type products, it has a porous surface that can grab onto things in your gut, including medicine. If you swallow it too close to your lisinopril, some of that blood pressure pill may get bound up and pass through without being fully absorbed. That means you could end up with less lisinopril in your system than intended.

In real life, that could show up as your blood pressure creeping back up, since you're not getting the full dose working. The good news is this is easy to manage. Just space them out by at least two hours. This concern is based on how charcoal behaves in general, not on hard studies with lisinopril, but the simple timing fix is worth doing. Check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

About Lisinopril

What Is Lisinopril Used For?

Brand names: Zestril, Prinivil, Qbrelis

Lisinopril treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older, and can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. The tablet combination product containing lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is specifically indicated for high blood pressure.

Lisinopril is also used as an add-on therapy to reduce signs and symptoms of systolic heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death in people who are hemodynamically stable (have reasonably stable circulation) within 24 hours of an acute heart attack (acute myocardial infarction).
