Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal acts like a sponge in your gut. Its porous, charred surface can grab onto things you swallow, including your Mephenytoin (Mesantoin), before they get a chance to absorb into your bloodstream. If less of your seizure medicine gets in, you may get a weaker effect, and for an anti-seizure drug that can mean breakthrough seizures, which is exactly what you don't want.

The good news is this is mostly a timing problem, and the concern here is based on how charcoal behaves rather than hard studies in people. A common-sense fix is to keep the two well apart, usually by at least two hours. Before you combine them, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor so your dosing stays on track.
