ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Trimipramine
Trimipramine falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Coffee Charcoal interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: coffee charcoal works a bit like a sponge in your gut. That porous, charred surface can grab onto things sitting in your stomach and intestines, and that may include your trimipramine. If the two are sitting in there together, the charcoal could soak up some of your dose before your body absorbs it.
The practical worry isn't extra side effects here, it's getting too little of your antidepressant. Over time that could mean your depression isn't as well controlled. This is based on how charcoal behaves rather than hard studies on this exact pairing, so it's more of a sensible precaution. An easy fix is spacing them at least two hours apart. Check with your pharmacist before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Trimipramine page
“If you take trimipramine (Surmontil), a tricyclic antidepressant, read this list carefully. Nine of the 139 supplements and herbs on file are rated major, and most touch the heart: several, grapefruit among them, can stretch the QT interval, the heart's electrical reset time, and raise the risk of a dangerous rhythm.”

About Coffee Charcoal
What is Coffee Charcoal?
- Diarrhea
- Inflammatory bowel conditions
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Mild digestive upset
- Wound and skin care (topical, traditional)
Coffee charcoal is made by roasting green coffee beans until they turn black, creating a charcoal-like material used traditionally for diarrhea and digestive complaints. Scientific evidence supporting its benefits is very limited, and it should not replace proven treatments. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have a chronic gut condition.
About Trimipramine
What Is Trimipramine Used For?
Brand names: Surmontil, Trimip, Rhotrimine, Tripramine, Trimp
Trimipramine capsules are indicated for the relief of symptoms of depression. Endogenous depression — depression that arises from within, rather than from an obvious outside cause — is more likely to respond to treatment than other types.
In clinical studies, trimipramine worked as well as imipramine in hospitalized patients with depression, and was comparable to amitriptyline in less severely depressed outpatients.

Trimipramine Is Linked to Lower Levels of 3 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Trimipramine as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Coffee Charcoal — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
