Here's the simple version: some chemotherapy drugs, including vinblastine, can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Coriander contains a compound called coriandrin that, in lab studies, also showed some sun-sensitizing activity. The thinking is that putting the two together might add up and raise your chances of getting a burn or skin reaction.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes from test-tube research and scattered reports, not solid human studies, so it's more of a theoretical concern. The cilantro on your tacos almost certainly won't matter. If you're using concentrated coriander extracts or oils while on vinblastine, just mention it to your oncology team, and either way, wear sunscreen and cover up in strong sun.

What Is Vinblastine Used For?

Brand name: Velban

Vinblastine Sulfate Injection is used in the treatment of a range of cancers. Conditions that tend to respond well include generalized Hodgkin's disease, lymphocytic lymphoma, histiocytic lymphoma, advanced mycosis fungoides (a type of skin lymphoma), advanced testicular cancer, Kaposi's sarcoma, and Letterer-Siwe disease (a rare immune condition also called histiocytosis X).

It may also be used for cancers that respond less reliably, such as choriocarcinoma resistant to other chemotherapy drugs, and breast cancer that has not responded to hormonal therapy. Vinblastine is often given as part of a combination chemotherapy regimen alongside other cancer medicines to improve response rates.
