The dendrobium constituent dendrobine is reported to have convulsant effects. Theoretically, combining dendrobium with pro-convulsant drugs might increase the risk of seizure. Some drugs that lower the seizure threshold include anesthetics (propofol, others), antiarrhythmics (mexiletine), antibiotics (amphotericin, penicillin, cephalosporins, imipenem), antidepressants (bupropion, others), antihistamines (cyproheptadine, others), immunosuppressants (cyclosporine), narcotics (fentanyl, others), stimulants (methylphenidate), theophylline, and others.

Here's the gist with Dendrobium and iodinated benzoic acid contrast agents. One of the natural compounds in Dendrobium, called dendrobine, has been reported to have convulsant (seizure-promoting) effects in lab settings. Some iodinated contrast agents given into the body can, on their own, slightly lower the seizure threshold in certain people. So the theory is that taking the two together could nudge that risk a bit higher, meaning a small added chance of a seizure, especially if you already have a seizure history.

I want to be honest about how soft this is. This is a theoretical concern based on pharmacology, not on real patient cases, so for most people it's likely minor. These contrast agents are also given as one-time doses under medical supervision. Still, please mention any Dendrobium use to your doctor or radiology team beforehand so they can decide what's safest for you.
