SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Methylphenidate Hydrochloride
Methylphenidate Hydrochloride falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist of it. Methylphenidate is a stimulant, and stimulants can already nudge the brain toward being more excitable, which slightly lowers the threshold for a seizure. Dendrobium contains a compound called dendrobine that, in lab settings, has shown convulsant (seizure-promoting) activity. So in theory, taking the two together could add up and make a seizure a little more likely, especially in someone who already has epilepsy or another risk factor.
I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on how these things behave in the lab and on what we know about the chemistry, not on real reports in people. For most folks the risk is probably low, but since seizures are serious, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them rather than deciding on your own.

About Dendrobium
What is Dendrobium?
- Dry mouth and thirst
- Supporting digestion
- General tonic/vitality
- Eye and skin health
- Recovery after illness
Dendrobium is a group of orchids long used in traditional Chinese medicine, often to moisten the body and as a general tonic. Human evidence for its modern health claims is very limited, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety isn't known.

Not every product is approved for every use or age group.
