SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Pentazocine
Aspirin, Pentazocine falls under SEIZURE THRESHOLD LOWERING DRUGS — the group Dendrobium interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Talwin Compound combines aspirin with pentazocine, an opioid pain reliever. Here the concern isn't about how either drug is broken down. Instead, it's the pentazocine side of things. Like many narcotics, pentazocine can slightly lower the threshold at which a seizure can happen, especially at higher doses or in people already prone to seizures.
Dendrobium contains a compound called dendrobine that, in lab and animal studies, has shown convulsant (seizure-triggering) activity. So in theory, pairing the two could nudge seizure risk a bit higher. I want to be honest: this is a theoretical caution based on pharmacology, not real-world reports, so don't panic. Still, it's worth running by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Aspirin, Pentazocine page
“Talwin Compound pairs pentazocine, an opioid painkiller, with aspirin, and I read its supplement list with more concern than most. The great majority of entries do one of two things: raise the bleeding risk that aspirin already carries, or deepen the sedation pentazocine causes.”

About Dendrobium
What is Dendrobium?
- Dry mouth and thirst
- Supporting digestion
- General tonic/vitality
- Eye and skin health
- Recovery after illness
Dendrobium is a group of orchids long used in traditional Chinese medicine, often to moisten the body and as a general tonic. Human evidence for its modern health claims is very limited, so it should be viewed as a traditional remedy rather than a proven treatment. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding because safety isn't known.
