Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: green coffee naturally contains caffeine, and methylphenidate (Quillichew, Adhansia XR) is already a stimulant for the brain and nervous system. Stacking one stimulant on top of another can add up. The concern isn't that green coffee changes how your body breaks the medication down, it's that the two together can push stimulation higher than either alone.

What might that feel like? Think more jitteriness, a racing or pounding heartbeat, trouble sleeping, anxiety, or a bump in blood pressure. To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical worry based on expert opinion, and an occasional cup likely matters less than concentrated, high-dose green coffee extract supplements. Still, if you're sensitive to caffeine or notice these effects, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

About Methylphenidate

What Is Methylphenidate Used For?

Brand names: Quillichew, Adhansia XR

Methylphenidate is used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) — a condition marked by inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that interferes with daily life at home, school, or work. It is available in many forms (oral tablets, capsules, liquid, chewable tablets, orally disintegrating tablets, and a skin patch), and each formulation has its own specific approved age range.

Some oral extended-release tablet formulations are also approved to treat narcolepsy (a sleep disorder causing excessive daytime sleepiness). The oral solution and chewable tablets are indicated for children with ADHD as part of a broader treatment program that may include counseling and educational support. Not every formulation is approved for every age group or condition — check with your prescriber or pharmacist for the specifics of your product.
