Nifedipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, taking green coffee with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.

Here's the gist with nifedipine and green coffee. Nifedipine already relaxes your blood vessels to bring your blood pressure down. Some studies suggest green coffee, thanks to its chlorogenic acid, can nudge blood pressure down a little too. Stack the two together and there's a chance your pressure dips lower than expected, which could leave you feeling dizzy, lightheaded, or a bit flushed, especially when you stand up quickly.

That said, this is rated a minor interaction, and the blood pressure benefit of green coffee is modest and not firmly proven. Caffeine in green coffee could even push the other way for some folks. Nothing here means you must avoid green coffee, but if you take a concentrated extract daily, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on how you feel.

What Is Nifedipine Used For?

Brand names: Procardia XL, Adalat PA, Adalat, Nifedin, Nifed PA, Nifed, Procardia, Adalat XL, Adalat CC, Adalat LA, Adalat Retard, Adipine MR, Adipine XL, Cardilate MR, Coracten SR, Coracten XL, Fortipine LA 40, Hypolar Retard 20, Nifedipress MR, Nifopress Retard, Tensipine MR

Nifedipine treats high blood pressure (hypertension), chronic stable angina (chest pain brought on by physical effort), and vasospastic angina (chest pain caused by spasm of the coronary arteries, sometimes called Prinzmetal's angina). Lowering blood pressure with nifedipine helps reduce the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

The capsule form is approved for vasospastic angina and chronic stable angina only — it is not approved for high blood pressure. The extended-release tablet (including Procardia) covers all three uses: vasospastic angina, chronic stable angina, and high blood pressure.
