Green Coffee and Felodipine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Felodipine

Felodipine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, taking green coffee with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence B

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: felodipine already lowers your blood pressure by relaxing your blood vessels. Green coffee, thanks to its chlorogenic acid, may nudge blood pressure down a little too. Stack the two together and the effects could add up, possibly leaving your pressure lower than intended.

If that happens, you might feel dizzy or lightheaded, especially when standing up quickly, or notice more tiredness or a flushed feeling. That said, this is mostly a theoretical concern. The evidence is on the weaker side, and a regular cup of coffee likely won't move the needle much. Concentrated green coffee supplements are the bigger question mark. If you're considering one, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor first so they can keep an eye on your numbers.

About Green Coffee

What is Green Coffee?

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control
  • Antioxidant support
  • General energy

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It contains caffeine, so people sensitive to stimulants should use caution and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.
