Green Coffee and Pindolol

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS

Why this applies to Pindolol

Pindolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Green Coffee interacts with.

Theoretically, taking green coffee with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Clinical studies have shown that green coffee extract decreases blood pressure. When used with antihypertensive drugs, green coffee might have additive blood pressure-lowering effects. However, this has not been shown in clinical research.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence B

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist: pindolol (Visken) is a beta blocker that lowers your blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels and easing your heart rate. Green coffee, thanks to its chlorogenic acid, may gently nudge blood pressure down too. Put them together and those effects could stack up a bit. In theory, that might leave you with blood pressure that runs a little too low, showing up as dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, or feeling faint when you stand up.

That said, this is a minor, mostly theoretical concern, and human studies haven't actually proven it happens. The caffeine in green coffee can also nudge things the other way. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but if you notice new dizziness, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before making any changes.

Green Coffee
  • Weight loss
  • High blood pressure
  • Blood sugar control

Green coffee is the unroasted bean of the coffee plant, prized for its high chlorogenic acid content. Some early studies suggest modest benefits for weight, blood pressure, and blood sugar, but the evidence is limited and far from conclusive.
