Psilocybin + Methylphenidate Hydrochloride
Methylphenidate Hydrochloride brand names: Quillichew, Adhansia XR.
Methylphenidate Hydrochloride falls into 2 drug categories that Psilocybin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, combining psilocybin with serotonergic drugs might cause additive serotonergic effects.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Psilocybin interacts with whole categories of medication. Methylphenidate Hydrochloride falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Psilocybin in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
1 of 2Why this applies to Methylphenidate Hydrochloride
Methylphenidate Hydrochloride falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Psilocybin interacts with.
Psilocybin has serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor agonist activity. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with psilocybin might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea behind this pairing. Both psilocybin and methylphenidate touch your brain's serotonin system. Methylphenidate (Quillichew, Adhansia XR) mainly boosts dopamine and norepinephrine, but it also nudges serotonin a bit. Psilocybin is converted in your body to psilocin, which directly stimulates serotonin (5-HT2A) receptors. Stacking the two could, in theory, push serotonin activity too high.
If that happened, you might see things like a racing heart, high blood pressure, agitation, tremor, sweating, or in rare cases a serious reaction called serotonin syndrome. I'll be honest with you though, this is a theoretical concern based on how these drugs work, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. Still, please don't combine them without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first.

STIMULANT DRUGS
2 of 2Methylphenidate Hydrochloride also falls under STIMULANT DRUGS.
Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of psilocybin, concomitant use with stimulant drugs may increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: both psilocybin and methylphenidate rev up your nervous system, just through different doors. Methylphenidate boosts dopamine and norepinephrine to help with focus, while psilocybin (through psilocin) stirs up serotonin activity. Stack two stimulating effects on top of each other and you may notice more of methylphenidate's downsides, things like a racing or pounding heart, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, anxiety, trouble sleeping, or feeling overstimulated.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances work, not on solid studies. Keep in mind psilocybin isn't an approved supplement and is illegal in most places. If this is something on your mind, please talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

About Psilocybin
What is Psilocybin?
- Depression
- Anxiety (including in serious illness)
- Substance use disorders
- Post-traumatic stress
- Spiritual or psychological exploration
Psilocybin is a powerful psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms and is being studied for hard-to-treat depression, anxiety, and addiction, but it is still investigational and not an approved supplement. It is illegal in most places, can cause intense and unpredictable mental effects, and should never be used outside of a supervised clinical setting.
About Methylphenidate
What Is Methylphenidate Used For?
Brand names: Quillichew, Adhansia XR
Methylphenidate treats ADHD across many oral and patch products. Age ranges differ by product. Some are approved for children 6 and older, some for children and teens, and some also for adults up to age 65.
Some immediate-release and certain extended-release methylphenidate tablets are also used for narcolepsy (a sleep disorder with sudden, overwhelming sleepiness). Methylphenidate oral solution and chewable tablets are described for attention deficit disorders in children, as part of a total treatment program that includes psychological, educational and social support. Not every product is approved for every use or age group.
