Rizatriptan Benzoate falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Psilocybin interacts with.

Theoretically, combining psilocybin with serotonergic drugs might cause additive serotonergic effects.
Psilocybin has serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor agonist activity. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with psilocybin might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with rizatriptan (Maxalt): it works by stimulating serotonin receptors in your brain to calm a migraine. Psilocybin, once your body turns it into psilocin, also works on serotonin receptors. So on paper, stacking these two serotonin-acting substances together could push serotonin activity too high, raising the theoretical risk of serotonin syndrome. That might show up as agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shakiness, muscle twitching, or confusion.

I want to be honest about the strength here: this concern is based on how these drugs work, not on real reports in people. It hasn't actually been documented. Still, since psilocybin itself is investigational and not legal in most places, please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything with your migraine medicine.

What Is Rizatriptan Used For?

Brand names: Maxalt-MLT, Maxalt

Rizatriptan treats migraine headaches — with or without aura — when they occur. It is approved for adults and for children and teens ages 6 to 17. It is available as a regular tablet (Maxalt, Rizatriptan, Rizatriptan Benzoate), an orally disintegrating tablet (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT, Rizatriptan Benzoate ODT), and a dissolving oral film placed on the tongue (Rizafilm).

Rizatriptan is for stopping a migraine once it starts — it is not meant to prevent migraines from happening, and it is not approved for cluster headaches. It should only be used after a doctor has confirmed a migraine diagnosis.
