Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Dextromethorphan HBr, Guaifenesin
Dextromethorphan HBr, Guaifenesin falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Psilocybin interacts with.
Psilocybin has serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor agonist activity. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with psilocybin might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know: dextromethorphan (the cough suppressant in this product) nudges up serotonin activity in the brain, and psilocybin works on serotonin receptors too. Stack them together and, at least on paper, those serotonin effects could pile up. The guaifenesin part just loosens mucus and isn't really involved here.
In a worst-case scenario, too much serotonin can trigger what's called serotonin syndrome, with symptoms like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion. I'll be honest though, this is a theoretical concern based on how the two work, not something documented in real patients. Psilocybin also isn't a legal or approved supplement. If you're considering anything like this, please talk it over with your pharmacist or doctor first.
