Valproic Acid falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Psilocybin interacts with.

Theoretically, combining psilocybin with serotonergic drugs might cause additive serotonergic effects.
Psilocybin has serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor agonist activity. Theoretically, combining serotonergic drugs with psilocybin might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture for valproic acid (Depakene, Depakote) and psilocybin. The concern on file is about adding two things that nudge serotonin in the brain. Psilocybin turns into psilocin, which directly switches on certain serotonin receptors. The worry is that pairing it with serotonergic medicines could pile on serotonin-related effects, in rare cases something called serotonin syndrome (agitation, fast heartbeat, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching).

I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical caution based on how these drugs work, not something actually reported in people. Valproic acid is a fairly weak serotonin player compared to true antidepressants, so the real-world overlap is probably small. Still, psilocybin is investigational and unpredictable, so please don't mix anything without first talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

Valproic acid capsules (brands Valproic and Valproic Acid) and valproic acid oral solution (brand Valproic Acid) are both used to treat epilepsy. Specifically, they are approved for complex partial seizures (either alone or with other seizure types) as monotherapy or add-on therapy, and for simple and complex absence seizures as sole therapy or add-on therapy.

Both forms are intended for adults and pediatric patients. Always follow your prescriber's guidance on which product and regimen is right for you.
