Fluoxetine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Eleuthero interacts with.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP2C9. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to help clear fluoxetine (Prozac) out of your system. Lab and animal studies hint that eleuthero might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happened in people, fluoxetine could build up slightly and you might notice more of its usual effects, things like nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, headache, or restlessness.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This is only a theoretical concern from test-tube and animal data, and it has never actually been reported in humans. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since both can affect mood and energy, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before you combine them.

Theoretically, eleuthero might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro and animal research suggest that standardized extracts of eleuthero might inhibit CYP2D6. However, research in healthy human volunteers has found that taking eleuthero 485 mg twice daily for 14 days does not inhibit CYP2D6 drug metabolism.

Here's the short version: on paper, eleuthero might slow down an enzyme in your liver called CYP2D6, which is one of the pathways that helps clear fluoxetine (Prozac) from your body. If that enzyme were blocked, fluoxetine levels could creep up a bit, and you might notice more of its usual effects like nausea, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, or headache.

But here's the reassuring part. When researchers actually tested eleuthero in healthy people for two weeks, it did not meaningfully affect CYP2D6. So this concern is mostly theoretical, comes from lab and animal studies, and is rated minor and unlikely. I wouldn't lose sleep over it, but since fluoxetine is a long-acting medication, it's still worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before adding eleuthero.

Fluoxetine is approved to treat four conditions: major depressive disorder (MDD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia nervosa (a binge-eating and purging disorder), and panic disorder — with or without agoraphobia (fear of situations that feel hard to escape).

It works for adults across all four conditions, and for children and teens with depression (ages 8–18) and OCD (ages 7–17).
