First things first: please don't take European mandrake at all. It's a genuinely poisonous plant, and there's no safe, proven reason to use it. With that said, here's the interaction on file with your Diuril (chlorothiazide). Mandrake contains atropine-like chemicals that slow down how fast your gut moves things along. In theory, when your stomach empties more slowly, a pill like chlorothiazide can sit there longer and get absorbed more completely.

If that happened, you might feel the water pill effect more strongly: extra urination, dizziness or lightheadedness when standing, low potassium, or feeling dehydrated. I want to be honest that this is only a theoretical concern based on how these chemicals work, not something proven in people. The bigger issue is mandrake's toxicity itself. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with this medication.

It contains powerful poisons that can cause serious harm or death, and there is no proof it safely treats any condition. We strongly recommend you do not consume mandrake in any form.

About Chlorothiazide

What Is Chlorothiazide Used For?

Brand name: Diuril

Chlorothiazide is used to reduce fluid buildup (edema) linked to conditions such as heart failure, liver cirrhosis (hepatic cirrhosis), and certain kidney disorders — including nephrotic syndrome, acute glomerulonephritis, and chronic renal failure. It is also used when edema is caused by corticosteroid or estrogen therapy.

The oral suspension (Diuril) is additionally approved to treat high blood pressure, either on its own or alongside other blood pressure medications. The intravenous forms — including Sodium Diuril, Chlorothiazide Sodium, and Chlorothiazide injection products — are reserved for treating edema in patients who cannot take oral medication or in emergency situations; these intravenous products are not approved for high blood pressure management.
