Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Let me start with the most important point: European mandrake is genuinely toxic and we don't recommend taking it at all. But here's the theoretical concern if it were combined with dronabinol. Mandrake's alkaloids slow down how fast your gut moves things along. When your digestion slows, a pill like dronabinol can sit around longer and get absorbed more completely, which may push more of it into your system.

For dronabinol, more drug on board could mean stronger effects like dizziness, drowsiness, a racing heartbeat, confusion, or feeling "high." Keep in mind this is a theoretical idea based on how these substances behave, not something proven in studies. Dronabinol isn't a prodrug, so it doesn't flip direction here. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with it.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dronabinol page

“A glass of grapefruit juice can push dronabinol (Marinol, Syndros), the prescription form of THC used for chemotherapy nausea and appetite loss, to higher blood levels than intended, amplifying dizziness, sedation, and its mind-altering effects. That is one of three major-rated interactions among the 151 supplements and herbs on file,…”

European mandrake is a highly toxic plant from the nightshade family that was used in ancient and medieval times as a sedative and pain reliever. About Dronabinol

What Is Dronabinol Used For?

Brand names: Marinol, Syndros

Dronabinol — available as capsules (Marinol, Dronabinol) and as an oral solution (Syndros, Dronabinol oral solution) — is approved for two conditions in adults. First, it treats anorexia (severely reduced appetite) associated with weight loss in patients with AIDS. Second, it controls nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy in patients who have not gotten enough relief from standard anti-nausea treatments.

Both uses apply to all available formulations, but dosing timing and meal instructions differ between the capsule and oral solution products. Always follow the specific instructions for the product you have been prescribed.
