European Mandrake + Glipizide, Metformin

ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Glipizide, Metformin
Glipizide, Metformin falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group European Mandrake interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
First things first: I'd steer you away from European mandrake altogether. It's genuinely toxic, and there's no safe use for it. But here's the idea behind this particular interaction. Mandrake's tropane alkaloids (atropine-like compounds) slow down how fast your gut moves. When your stomach and intestines empty more slowly, a medication like your Metaglip (glipizide plus metformin) may sit there longer and get absorbed a bit more completely.
With glipizide, a stronger or fuller dose could push your blood sugar too low, causing shakiness, sweating, confusion, or dizziness. This is only a theoretical concern based on how these chemicals work, not solid human studies. Still, please don't use mandrake, and check with your pharmacist or doctor about any supplement.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Glipizide, Metformin page
“Glipizide and metformin (Metaglip) already work hard to pull blood sugar down, which is exactly why this list of 307 ingredients deserves genuine vigilance rather than a shrug. Most of them, 239, can lower glucose on their own, and stacked on this pill the combined effect can tip into true hypoglycemia.”
