First things first: European mandrake is a genuinely toxic plant, and I would not take it at all. But here's the specific concern with Imbruvica (ibrutinib). Mandrake's tropane alkaloids slow down how fast your gut moves. When your digestive tract slows, a pill like ibrutinib can sit longer and potentially get absorbed more, which may mean more of the drug in your bloodstream than expected.

For ibrutinib that could translate into stronger side effects, things like bruising and bleeding, diarrhea, fatigue, joint or muscle aches, and irregular heartbeat. I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical interaction based on how these chemicals work, not solid human studies. Ibrutinib is not a prodrug, so more exposure simply means more effect. Please skip the mandrake and talk with your oncologist or pharmacist before adding any supplement.

What Is Ibrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Imbruvica

Imbruvica (ibrutinib) is approved for adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) / small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), including those with a specific genetic change called 17p deletion, and for adult patients with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare type of blood cancer.

Imbruvica is also approved for chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) — a complication that can occur after a stem cell transplant — in adults and children aged 1 year and older whose condition did not respond to at least one prior treatment.
