First things first: please don't take European mandrake at all. It's a genuinely toxic plant, and there's no safe, proven reason to use it. With that said, here's the idea behind this particular interaction. Mandrake's compounds (like atropine and scopolamine) slow down how fast your gut moves things along. When food and pills sit in your system longer, your body can sometimes absorb a bit more of an oral drug like telmisartan.

For telmisartan, more absorption could mean a stronger blood-pressure-lowering effect than expected, so you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired. This is only a theoretical concern based on how the chemicals work, not something proven in people. The real risk here is the mandrake itself. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before mixing anything new with your blood pressure medicine.

About Telmisartan

What Is Telmisartan Used For?

Brand name: Micardis

Telmisartan tablets — sold as Micardis and the generic telmisartan — treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Bringing blood pressure down lowers the risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Micardis and telmisartan tablets are also approved to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death from cardiovascular causes in patients 55 or older who are at high cardiovascular risk and cannot take ACE inhibitors. This use is for patients with a history of conditions such as coronary artery disease, peripheral arterial disease, stroke, TIA (mini-stroke), or high-risk diabetes with signs of organ damage.
