First things first: European mandrake is genuinely toxic, and I would not recommend taking it in any form. Beyond that safety concern, here is how it could theoretically bump into thiotepa. The tropane alkaloids in mandrake slow down the movement of your gut. When the gut moves more slowly, an oral medication can sit there longer and get absorbed a bit more fully, which can raise how much ends up in your body.

For a chemotherapy drug like thiotepa, more absorption could mean stronger effects and more side effects, things like low blood counts, nausea, mouth sores, and a higher infection risk. This is only a theoretical concern based on pharmacology, not proven in studies. Please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before combining anything with your chemo.

European mandrake is a highly toxic plant from the nightshade family that was used in ancient and medieval times as a sedative and pain reliever. It contains powerful poisons that can cause serious harm or death, and there is no proof it safely treats any condition. We strongly recommend you do not consume mandrake in any form.

About Thiotepa Injection

What Is Thiotepa Injection Used For?

Brand names: Thioplex, Tepadina

Tepadina (thiotepa) injection is used for several purposes. It treats adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer) of the breast or ovary. It is also used to control malignant effusions — abnormal fluid buildup in body cavities caused by cancer spreading to those areas. For bladder cancer, Tepadina treats superficial papillary carcinoma of the urinary bladder.

Tepadina is also used in pediatric patients with class 3 beta-thalassemia (a severe inherited blood disorder). In those patients, it is given as part of a preparative regimen — a conditioning treatment to reduce the risk of graft rejection before an allogeneic stem cell transplant (a transplant using donor stem cells), alongside the chemotherapy drugs busulfan and cyclophosphamide.
