First things first: I'd steer you away from European mandrake entirely. It's a genuinely poisonous nightshade plant, and the safety risks far outweigh anything it might offer. Putting that aside to answer your question, the concern here is that mandrake's atropine-like compounds slow down how fast your gut moves things along. When food and pills sit in your digestive tract longer, your body can absorb more of a medication like valsartan than expected.

For valsartan, which lowers blood pressure, picking up extra absorption could push your pressure down a little too far. That might show up as dizziness, lightheadedness when you stand, or feeling washed out. Keep in mind this is a theoretical interaction based on how these chemicals behave, not something proven in studies. Valsartan is not a prodrug, so it works as-is. Please don't take mandrake, and check with your pharmacist or doctor about anything you're considering.

About Valsartan

What Is Valsartan Used For?

Brand names: Diovan, Prexxartan

Valsartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children, heart failure in adults, and reduces the risk of cardiovascular death in adults who have had a heart attack and have a weakened heart muscle. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack.

Diovan (valsartan) tablets are approved to treat high blood pressure in children as young as 1 year old. Valsartan tablets (other brands) are approved for children 6 years and older. Valsartan oral solution is specifically indicated for patients with heart failure or post-heart attack left ventricular dysfunction who are unable to swallow tablets.
