Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Evodia interacts with.

Evodia might reduce the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates through induction of CYP1A2.
Evodia extract and the evodia constituent rutaecarpine induce hepatic CYP1A2 enzyme activity. Evodia decreases levels of theophylline and caffeine, CYP1A2 substrates, by about 70% in animal models.

Limbitrol combines amitriptyline (an older antidepressant) with chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine for anxiety). The amitriptyline part is partly handled by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2. Evodia appears to speed up that enzyme, so in theory it could clear amitriptyline a little faster and make it less effective. If that happened, you might notice your mood, sleep, or pain control slipping back toward where it was before treatment.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: the evidence comes only from lab and animal studies, not real people, so the actual effect in you is uncertain. Still, before adding Evodia, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on how well your medicine is working.

Evodia has demonstrated dose-dependent activity as a proarrhythmic agent in animal and in vitro studies. Evodia infusion in animals extends the action duration potential and induces prolongation of the QT interval and Torsade de pointes.

Let's talk about pairing Evodia with Limbitrol DS, which combines amitriptyline (a tricyclic antidepressant) with chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine). The piece I want to flag is the amitriptyline half. Tricyclics like amitriptyline can already nudge your heart's electrical rhythm, lengthening what's called the QT interval. In lab dishes and animal studies, Evodia has shown the same kind of effect. Stacking two things that pull in the same direction could, in theory, raise the chance of an irregular heartbeat.

Here's the honest part: this concern rests on test-tube and animal data, not human studies, so it's more of a caution than a proven danger. Still, since amitriptyline carries its own heart-rhythm reputation, I'd check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding Evodia.

Theoretically, evodia might increase the levels and clinical effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that evodia extract inhibits hepatic CYP3A4. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Limbitrol DS combines amitriptyline (an older antidepressant) with chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine for anxiety). Both of these are partly cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies suggest evodia can slow that enzyme down. In theory, if the enzyme works more slowly, these two medicines could clear out of your body less efficiently and build up a bit.

If that happened, you might feel the side effects more strongly: extra drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, or feeling foggy and unsteady. That said, this concern comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so we honestly don't know if it matters in real life. Before mixing them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.
