Evodia extract and the evodia constituent rutaecarpine induce hepatic CYP1A2 enzyme activity. Evodia decreases levels of theophylline and caffeine, CYP1A2 substrates, by about 70% in animal models.

Here's the part of Fiorinal with Codeine that matters for this combo: the caffeine piece. Caffeine is cleared by a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, and Evodia seems to speed that enzyme up. In animal studies, Evodia dropped caffeine levels by around 70%. So in plain terms, the caffeine in your tablet may get burned off faster and feel weaker, which mostly means you might lose a little of that headache-fighting kick the caffeine adds.

The aspirin, butalbital, and codeine parts aren't really driven by CYP1A2, so this interaction is mainly about the caffeine. Keep in mind this is based on lab and animal data, not human studies, so it's far from certain. Still, run it by your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two.

Let's talk about Fiorinal with Codeine, which is a combo of aspirin, butalbital (a barbiturate), caffeine, and codeine. The concern here is that evodia, in lab studies, slowed down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The butalbital piece is partly handled by that pathway, so in theory it could build up a bit and leave you feeling more drowsy, foggy, or unsteady than usual.

Here's the honest part: this has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in real people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Food-level amounts are very unlikely to matter; concentrated supplement doses are the bigger question mark. Since this medicine already causes sedation, just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding evodia.

Here's the piece that matters for Fiorinal with Codeine: it contains aspirin, which is a blood thinner that keeps your platelets from clumping together. Evodia may do a similar thing. In lab and animal studies, one of its compounds (rutaecarpine) also slowed platelet activity, so pairing the two could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk a little higher.

What that might look like in real life: easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or a cut that takes longer to stop. I'll be honest with you though, this is only theoretical right now and based on test tube and animal data, not people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, please run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you take other blood thinners.

Here's the piece to focus on with Fiorinal with Codeine: it contains caffeine, and that's the part Evodia may bump into. In animal studies, Evodia seems to speed up a liver enzyme (CYP1A2) that breaks caffeine down, which lowered caffeine levels by quite a lot. In real life, that could mean the caffeine in this combo pill works less well, so you might not get the same little lift or headache relief that the caffeine normally adds.

I want to be honest about the limits here: this is based on lab and animal research, not human studies, so it's more of a theoretical heads-up than a proven problem. It shouldn't change how the aspirin, butalbital, or codeine work. If you're using Evodia regularly, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.
