Lesinurad falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Evodia interacts with.

Theoretically, taking CYP3A4 inducers might decrease the levels and clinical effects of evodia.
Animal research shows that concomitant administration of dexamethasone, a known CYP3A4 inducer, with the alkaloid constituents of evodia significantly reduces the area under the curve (AUC), maximum concentration (Cmax), and half-life of these constituents.

Here's the thing to keep straight with this pairing: the interaction runs in the opposite direction from what most people expect. It's not that Lesinurad changes your gout therapy here. Instead, Lesinurad can speed up the breakdown of Evodia's active compounds (like evodiamine and rutaecarpine), because Lesinurad nudges up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. The likely result is simply less Evodia in your system, so whatever you were hoping it would do may not work as well.

I want to be honest about the evidence: this is theoretical, based on lab and animal studies, not human data. It shouldn't make your gout treatment less safe. Still, since Evodia isn't well studied in people, run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Lesinurad Used For?

  • Lesinurad is used in combination with a xanthine oxidase inhibitor to treat hyperuricemia (high levels of uric acid) in people with gout (sudden attacks of redness, swelling, pain, and heat in one or more joints) whose disease is not controlled with their current medication. Lesinurad is in a class of medications called selective uric acid reabsorption inhibitors. It works by helping the kidneys to remove uric acid from the body.
