Why this applies to Enoxaparin

Enoxaparin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Fenugreek interacts with.

Theoretically, fenugreek might have additive effects when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Some of the constituents in fenugreek have antiplatelet effects in animal and in vitro research. However, common fenugreek products might not contain sufficient concentrations of these constituents for clinical effects. A clinical study in patients with coronary artery disease or diabetes shows that taking fenugreek seed powder 2.5 grams twice daily for 3 months does not affect platelet aggregation, fibrinolytic activity, or fibrinogen levels .

Enoxaparin (Lovenox) is a blood thinner you inject to prevent and treat clots. The concern here is simple: fenugreek may have a mild blood-thinning effect of its own, so in theory it could add to what Lovenox is already doing. That could mean a higher chance of bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that takes longer to stop.

The good news is that this is mostly theoretical. The antiplatelet activity showed up in lab and animal studies, and one human trial using 2.5 grams of fenugreek seed powder twice daily for 3 months found no real change in clotting. Food amounts as a spice are very unlikely to matter. Still, since Lovenox already raises bleeding risk, check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding fenugreek supplements.

What Is Enoxaparin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Lovenox

Enoxaparin injection is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — blood clots in the legs — in people having abdominal surgery, hip replacement surgery, or knee replacement surgery, and in hospitalized patients who are largely immobile due to acute illness. It is also used to treat acute DVT, with or without a pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs), both in the hospital and at home.

It is also used alongside aspirin to reduce dangerous complications of unstable angina and non-Q-wave heart attack, and to treat acute STEMI (a severe type of heart attack involving full blockage of a coronary artery) in patients who receive clot-dissolving therapy or undergo a procedure to open the blocked artery (PCI).
