Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Uniretic combines two blood pressure lowering medicines: hydrochlorothiazide (a water pill) and moexipril (an ACE inhibitor). The idea here is simple. Some studies suggest that regularly drinking fermented milk, like certain kefirs or probiotic yogurts with special peptides, may nudge your top blood pressure number (systolic) down a little. If you stack that small effect on top of your medication, the two could add up.

What that might feel like: dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint, especially when standing up quickly. Honestly, this is mostly theory based on how things work, not a strong warning. A serving of fermented milk with a meal is unlikely to cause trouble. Just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on how you feel.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Hydrochlorothiazide, Moexipril page

“Uniretic pairs hydrochlorothiazide, a water pill, with moexipril, an ACE inhibitor, so it lowers blood pressure two ways at once, and that combination earns real caution with supplements. Of the 248 herbs and supplements with an interaction on file, 16 rate major, and those are the ones to understand first.”
