Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Fondaparinux
Fondaparinux falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Flaxseed Oil interacts with.
Small clinical studies show that consuming flaxseed oil might decrease platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing. Fondaparinux (Arixtra) is already a powerful blood thinner you inject under the skin, and it works by blocking factor Xa to make your blood less likely to clot. Flaxseed oil is mild by comparison, but a few small studies suggest it can slightly slow down how your platelets stick together and gently nudge bleeding time upward.
Put them together and the concern is simply additive, meaning two things that both reduce clotting could add up and raise your bleeding risk a little. Watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or pink or dark urine. To be clear, this is a theoretical interaction based on how each works, not a proven problem, but since you're already on a real anticoagulant, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding flaxseed oil.
