ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Tivozanib Hydrochloride
Tivozanib Hydrochloride falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Flaxseed Oil interacts with.
Small clinical studies show that consuming flaxseed oil might decrease platelet aggregation and increase bleeding time.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with these two together. Tivozanib (Fotivda) is a kidney-cancer drug that, on its own, can raise your risk of bleeding and affect blood pressure. Flaxseed oil, meanwhile, may slightly thin the blood by making platelets a little less sticky. Stack them and the worry is simply additive: a bit more bleeding tendency than either alone.
I want to be honest that this is a theoretical concern, based mostly on how flaxseed behaves in small studies rather than reports of harm with tivozanib specifically. Still, since tivozanib already carries its own bleeding risk, keep an eye out for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or unusual fatigue. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Just loop in your oncology team or pharmacist first.
