Here's the gist for Valium and this soy-mushroom supplement. The genistein in GCP may interfere with a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, one of the helpers your body uses to clear diazepam. In theory, if that enzyme slows down, diazepam could linger a bit longer than usual, which might add to the drowsiness, dizziness, grogginess, or unsteady feeling that benzodiazepines are already known for.

I want to be straight with you, though. This is a minor, possible interaction that has only shown up in animal research, not in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Diazepam is mainly handled by other enzymes too, so the real-world impact is likely small. Still, since GCP is a concentrated dose, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you ever feel extra sleepy.

What Is Diazepam Used For?

  • Diazepam is used to relieve anxiety and to control agitation caused by alcohol withdrawal. It is also used along with other medications to control muscle spasms and spasticity caused by certain neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy (condition that causes difficulty with movement and balance), paraplegia (inability to move parts of the body), athetosis (abnormal muscle contractions), and stiff-man syndrome (a rare disorder with muscle rigidity and stiffness). Diazepam is also used along with other medications to control seizures. Diazepam is in a class of medications called benzodiazepines. It works by calming abnormal overactivity in the brain.
