Formoterol falls under Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates — the group Genistein Combined Polysaccharide interacts with.

Here's the honest picture with GCP and your Formoterol inhaler. The supplement's genistein may slightly affect a liver enzyme called CYP2C9, and Formoterol is partly handled by that pathway. In theory, if genistein slows that enzyme down, a bit more Formoterol could linger in your system. Formoterol is an active medicine (not a prodrug), so more lingering drug could mean a touch more of its usual effects, like a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, or shaky hands.

That said, I don't want to scare you. This was only seen in animal studies, the interaction is rated minor, and Formoterol is inhaled, so very little reaches the bloodstream to begin with. Still, since you're managing COPD, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before starting GCP, especially given the cancer context.

What Is Formoterol Oral Inhalation Used For?

Brand names: Foradil Aerolizer, Atimos Modulite, Oxis Turbohaler, Perforomist, Foradil Certihaler

Formoterol fumarate inhalation solution is used for the long-term maintenance treatment of airway narrowing (bronchoconstriction) in adults with COPD, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. It is taken twice daily — morning and evening — as a regular, ongoing treatment.

Important limits: This medication is not for relieving sudden COPD flare-ups or breathlessness in the moment, and it is not approved to treat asthma. A separate short-acting inhaler should always be on hand for sudden symptoms.
