Here's the practical scoop. The genistein in GCP may nudge an enzyme in your liver called CYP2C9, which is one of the pathways your body uses to clear omeprazole. In theory, if that enzyme is slowed, a bit more omeprazole could hang around, which might mean slightly more of its usual mild effects (think headache, nausea, or loose stools). But honestly, this signal comes only from animal studies, so we just don't know if it matters in real people.

The good news is this is rated a minor interaction, and omeprazole has a wide safety margin, so small shifts aren't a big worry. Still, since you're considering GCP for a serious reason, I'd loop in your oncologist and pharmacist before combining them so they can keep an eye on things.

What Is Omeprazole Used For?

Omeprazole is used to treat a range of conditions where stomach acid causes problems. These include heartburn and acid reflux (GERD), erosive esophagitis (damage to the esophagus from acid), and stomach or duodenal ulcers. It can also be used alongside antibiotics to help get rid of an H. pylori infection — a bacteria that causes ulcers.

In more serious cases, omeprazole is used to manage conditions where the stomach produces far too much acid, such as pathologic hypersecretory conditions (rare medical disorders that cause extreme acid overproduction). It is approved for adults and children one year of age and older for GERD and erosive esophagitis.
