Why this applies to Flutamide

Flutamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group German Chamomile interacts with.

Theoretically, German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4 and increase levels of drugs metabolized by these enzymes.
In vitro evidence shows that German chamomile might inhibit CYP3A4. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, there might be an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking German chamomile.

Here's the gist for flutamide and chamomile tea. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process flutamide. In lab studies (test tube only, not in actual people), German chamomile appears to slow down that same enzyme a bit. If it did that in your body, flutamide could clear a little more slowly and build up, which might mean more of its usual side effects like diarrhea, nausea, hot flashes, or stress on the liver.

The important part: this is theoretical and hasn't been seen in real patients. An occasional cup of chamomile tea is unlikely to cause trouble. Still, because liver health matters with flutamide, it's worth mentioning concentrated chamomile supplements to your oncologist or pharmacist before adding them.

German chamomile is a widely used herbal remedy taken mainly as a tea for calming, sleep, and digestive complaints. Early research suggests possible benefits for mild anxiety and some skin or digestive issues, but the evidence is limited and most uses are based on tradition rather than strong proof. It is generally well tolerated, but people allergic to ragweed or related plants and those who are pregnant should be cautious.

What Is Flutamide Used For?

Brand names: Eulexin, Euflex

Eulexin (flutamide) capsules are used to treat prostate cancer in men. They are always used together with an LHRH agonist (a hormone-lowering injection), never alone.

Eulexin is indicated for two stages of prostate cancer: locally confined Stage B2-C prostate cancer (used alongside goserelin acetate and radiation therapy, starting eight weeks before radiation begins) and Stage D2 metastatic prostate cancer (cancer that has spread beyond the prostate, taken with an LHRH agonist until the disease progresses).
