Lansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldthread interacts with.

There's very preliminary evidence that berberine, a constituent of goldthread, might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking goldthread. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use goldthread cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.

Here's the situation with goldthread and your lansoprazole. Goldthread's main compound, berberine, may slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, which helps clear lansoprazole from your body. If that enzyme is blocked, a bit more lansoprazole could linger, in theory nudging up side effects like headache, diarrhea, stomach upset, or nausea.

I want to be honest though, this is very much a theoretical concern based on lab work, not something seen in real people taking these two together. Lansoprazole is also a regular medicine, not a narrow-margin drug, so small shifts usually aren't a big deal. Still, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding goldthread, especially as a concentrated supplement.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
