Chlorpheniramine Tannate, Phenylephrine Tannate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldthread interacts with.

There's very preliminary evidence that berberine, a constituent of goldthread, might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking goldthread. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use goldthread cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.

Here's the gist with Ricobid, which combines chlorpheniramine (an antihistamine) and phenylephrine (a decongestant). Goldthread's main compound, berberine, may gently slow down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 that helps clear chlorpheniramine. In theory, that could let a little more antihistamine build up, nudging up its usual effects like drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, or feeling foggy.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It's based on lab pharmacology, not real cases in people, so for most folks it's probably minor. Still, if you take Ricobid regularly or feel unusually sleepy or jittery, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before adding goldthread.
